Lambs Farm and its Mission in Libertyville,

Lambs Farm and its Mission

Everyone deserves to live a productive and fulfilling life, which is just what Bob Terese and Corinne Owen were thinking as they opened a small pet shop with 12 workers who all had developmental disabilities. 60 years later today, the shop has evolved into what is now Lambs Farm: a special place where adults with developmental disabilities are able to create lives of their own. These adults are safe to choose the working and living environments that are best suited to their needs, while visitors can come to learn and understand more about people with disabilities and how we can all coexist with each other.

Located just off 1-94 and Route 176 near Libertyville, Lambs Farm’s greatest attraction is it’s farmyard. Boasting over 300 different animals, the farmyard is the perfect place for pictures, field trips, and even birthday parties. Signs with descriptions lead the way for visitors to read and learn, while smaller animals are available to be interacted with. Newborns are also often on display in the spring, which is when the animals usually give birth. Aside from the animals in the farmyard, a miniature golf course is also available. Not stopping there, Lambs Farm also offers a carousel and even a miniature train which circles along Lambs Lake.

Moving along past the farmyard is Dogwood Garden and the pet center. All animals at the garden and pet center are listed on Lambs Farm’s adoption list, and can be adopted through their online application process. Dogwood Garden contains a wide variety of hanging baskets, potted annuals, succulents, bedding plants, vegetables, flower pouches, and more. With bright colors and vibrant plants, it is sure to catch the eye of any visitor. After spending a majority of the day visiting Lambs Farm’s many attractions, the Magnolia Cafe and Bakery is the perfect place to stop for lunch. With its delicious sandwiches, soups, salads, and even burgers, there is guaranteed to be something on the menu that will satisfy your hunger.

Lambs Farm is about helping people and helping people help themselves. Self-reliance, hard work, and a nurturing environment lead to a sense of fulfillment that can’t be found anywhere else. Lambs Farm is a place where people grow. They will always aim to help people with developmental disabilities lead productive, happy lives whilst connecting with the human spirit in us all.
