The Hiram B. Scutt Mansion was entered in the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, and it is permanently recognized for its architectural character. This building style is a Second Empire style structure built by one of Joliet's first known architects, James Weese. The red brick mansion is built on a bluff overlooking Bluff Street. It was named Barb Villa after the owner's barbwire industry, in Joliet.
